Chenille Stem Poinsettias

Sometimes, trials and challenges come and for a time we feel overwhelmed and stop everything to focus on our problems. And after some time we realize that those challenges are here to stay for a while and will not go away in a few days, or weeks. That's about the time when we start to crave a sense of normalcy. Life can still feel difficult, but steps need to be taken to keep going, keep moving forward. Looking forward is not easy, but it has to be done. Even though my life feels chaotic and it has for some time now, I knew I needed to get back to certain things. Crafting came last. Slowly, but surely I feel like I am ready to start sewing, making jewelry, getting out the Bleach pens, and eyeing my drop spindles or knitting needles. Since Christmas is only 18 days(!!!) away, I wanted my first project to be for the Holidays. I have tried to locate all the decorations and I could only find 2 boxes. I made these Chenille Stem Poinsettias before, but since I could not locate the box that had them, I wanted to make a few new to use as ornaments.

This is a really fast and easy craft, even kids can tackle. The instructions follow:
What you need:
I got all my supplies at Hobby Lobby.

1. For each poinsettia flower you need 3 full chenille stems. 2. Fold a stem in half.
 3. Twist the middle. 4. Twist the end closed. Repeat with the other two stems.

Next, put one stem on top of the other, aligning each in the middle (2.) and twist the bottom stem around the top stem (3.) Add the third stem, align middles, twist it around both stems in the middle (4.)
That's it. You are done. Now just add a few small yellow pom poms with your choice of adhesive.

Add an ornament wire and hang some on your tree, make a garland, or add it to your gift wrap. You can easily whip up a bunch in a few minutes. If you involve your kids, make sure you read them the Legend of the Poinsettias, a beautiful Christmas story. Hope this Christmas Season is full of joy for you and your family!

  6. Oh, my word! My mom made a whole arrangement of these back in the late 60's for my first home after I got married! I've looked and looked for instructions and could never find anything! Oh, thank you so much! Mom would be pleased.
